HippoPress is the publisher of the free weekly newspaper Hippo, based in Manchester, New Hampshire. Hippo, which is independently owned by Jody Reese, Jeff Rapsis and Dan Szczesny, started in January 2001. In 2004 it launched a second edition in Nashua and in 2005 it started a third in Concord. In 2007 the editions were combined into one newspaper with a circulation of 34,000.[1]

In 2006, HippoPress launched a free weekday newspaper in Manchester, called the Manchester Daily Express. As of February 28, 2008 it was reduced to once a week, published each Monday, with a projected circulation of 15,000.

In 2006 it also launched The Oxx, a semi-weekly circular geared towards males that in the summer of 2007 was turned into a monthly called OxxCycle, covering the state's motorcycling scene. In 2009 OxxCycle was converted to a semi-yearly glossy magazine. It reports a circulation of 5,500 via direct mail and 7,000 via free distribution in central and southern New Hampshire.

In 2009, HippoPress purchased The York Independent, a twice-monthly newspaper with a projected circulation of 4,000 to 10,000 depending on the season.

In 2009 HippoPress launched Quality of Life Printing and Distribution, a commercial distribution service for other free newspapers and fliers. QOL Distribution circulates publications throughout New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. QOL Printing offers a wide range of commercial printing, from postcards to banners. It also handled direct mail and list services.

In July 2009, HippoPress launched The Compass, a free weekly broadsheet newspaper based in Claremont, New Hampshire. The Compass was created to help fill the void left by the shutdown of the region's daily newspaper, the Eagle-Times, on July 10, 2009. The Compass, published on Thursdays, emphasizes community news in Claremont, Newport, and Charlestown, New Hampshire; Springfield and Windsor, Vermont; and other area towns. The paper's press run is 10,000 copies, which are delivered to 250 locations throughout the region.
